HTC Amaze 4G for Telus gets Ice Cream Sandwich

Telus customers with the HTC Amaze 4G will now be able to get their tongue wet with a nice helping of Ice Cream Sandwich. This’ll bring you up to the latest version of Android 4.0, but you’ll only be getting Sense 4.0 as this is not being considered a One phone. This update is a hefty one at 322MB so you’ll definitely want to be on WiFi before you get started. Also be sure that you have at least 30% of battery life to make sure things go smoothly. Once you’ve done all that, hit Menu > Settings > About Phone > System Software Updates > Check Now to get started.

Protect your Pendrives and Harddisk’s from autorun.inf virus

Protect your Pendrives and Harddisk’s from autorun.inf virus

These day’s it is normal to get affected by the autorun virus when we take our pendrives outside and plug into a another system. Guys, here is a way that can prevent your Pendrives and Hard disk’s from being affected by the autorun.inf virus. Actually this trick will fool the autorun virus ie it will not allow the autorun virus to create the file named autorun.inf in the root directory of drives. If you want to use this trick make sure the pendrives and hard drives are free from the autorun virus because this trick is not to remove the virus if it is there but to prevent the drive from being affected by the virus in the future.

  1. Use the command md autorun.inf on all of your drives.

  2. This will create a folder named autorun.inf on the specified drive. So when the virus comes your system will prevent it from being regenerated as it will not allow two files by the same name in one place.

  3. You should use the command md autorun.inf on all of your drives including your pendrive.

  4. Now reboot your system.

  5. Done!

If you want to get the command prompt option in right click menu just copy the following code to notepad and save it as command prompt here.reg.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

4 Tools To Protect USB Flash Drive/Pendrives From Virus

Often, our systems get infected with viruses soon after a USB pendrive has been plugged in. Not all the security programs can defend your PC against the virus attacks carried out through USB drives. But if we can take the necessary steps, staying safe from such viruses, worms and spywares spreading through pendrives/ flash drives may not be difficult at all. Here are some softwares that can efficiently protect your system and flash drives from unknown threats and viruses.

Increase Speed of Pen Drive

You might have noticed slow copy speeds with some pen drives. Here is a tweak which help in increasing the speed or giving a speed boost to your pendrive.

By enabling this tweak, the write caching option in windows will be enabled.

  • Plug in your USB Drive.

  • Then Open My Computer> right-click on your USB Drive >click Properties.

  • Select your USB drive Under Hardwares and choose Properties.

  • You will see a dialog box saying ” Optimize for quick removal”.This option is selected by default.

  • Select “Optimize for Performance”option.

  • Now, remove USB drive and plug it again.

  • Copy some files from the drive to your system or vice-versa. You can notice the speed increase.

After enabling this option in windows, make sure you use the Safely remove hardware option in windows each time you remove the removable drive from windows otherwise you might encounter errors with the pendrive. Though the tweak might not give exceptional speed boost to your usb drive but it will come in handy while copying large files.

Airtel 4G LTE

Don’t expect 40Mbps download speed from Airtel 4G LTE in India

Bharti Airtel launched 4G LTE (4’th Generation Long Term Evolution) network in India, starting from Kolkata. They have released the data plans, tariff details, required devices like USB modem or Indoor Wireless Gateway etc.

According to the Airtel 4G webpage, the company is going to offer 40Mbps download speed to its customer as 4G LTE-TD (Time Division LTE) technology is capable of offering up to 100 Mbps download speed and 40Mbps upload speed. But the question is whether customer will get this much download speed on their 4G devices while surfing the web? Answer is very straight, No.

4G LTE is already available in different parts of world like United States, UK etc. And if you go by the experience of People already using 4G network on their devices, you would find that they actually never get a speed near to even 20 Mbps.

As per the terms and conditions of LTE network provider,

Actual Internet speed would depend on multiple factors like device, web pages accessed, time of day, number of simultaneous users etc.

Apart from the above mentioned factors, the distance between your device and the mobile tower does also play an important role. In case of LTE, a single tower may cover area around 100 KM but of course the coverage and signal strength will diminish in metros and cities where you find lot many distractions in between.

What to expect from Airtel 4G LTE connection?

Like other 4G LTE service providers, Airtel will also give you a speed of around 5Mbps to 15Mbps depending on the factors explained earlier in this post. This speed is good for those who wants to download huge games from web, upload HD quality videos or even stream them on bigger screens, stream online TV in living room using Google TV or Apple TV etc. I have seen people getting 2Mbps of download speed on 4G network as well, so don’t get super excited after purchasing a 4G network.

According to the FUP (Fair Usage Policy) of Airtel, you will get 128 Kbps download speed after the free usage in your plan. Airtel 3G users get 2G speed (~128Kbps) after the free usage.

Airtel promises a download speed of 20 Mbps on 3G network but do you really get 20 Mbps on that? Then why should we believe this 40 Mbps or 100 Mbps promise.

MNP(Mobile Number Portability) in India

MNP (Mobile Number Portability) in India , Idea confirmed Haryana

Idea’s Sirji (Abhishek Bachchan) is already promoting MNP (Mobile Number Portability) on TV Ads and it is confirmed by DoT as well that finally MNP is coming in India on 25’th November 2010. Initially MNP will start from Haryana where 8 mobile operators are currently providing services. At least finally DoT is starting rolling out the most awaited feature in mobile industry i.e. MNP in India.

Update -On 25′th Nov, MNP (Mobile Number Portability) is launched in Haryaya, India by Telecom minister Mr. Kapil Sibbal. Rest of India is expected to get the service from 20′th Jan 2011.

Mobile Number Portability will let you change the service operator without changing your current mobile number. Still there is no update or confirmation about the MNP rollout in other circles. But the complete roll out is expected by March – May 2011.

MNP Mobile Number Portability India

Mobile Number Portability Process

As per TRAI, the new operator can charge you an amount less than or equal to Rs. 19. We will have to wait till 25’th to see how much operators charge for that. I hope that new operators may provide this service for free as they are getting new customer.

Postpaid users need to clear all pending bills before changing the operator. Once the bills are paid, they need to send a SMS to certain number and the current operator will provide a MNP key (or something similar). You just need to provide the key to the new operator at the time of registration.

Prepaid users will loose their current balance amount after changing the operator. They will also have to send SMS to that number to get the license key.

The complete portability or documents, history etc. should complete in 4 days as per TRAI. While changing the operator, deactivation and re-activation of the number should not take more than 2 hours. That means, you will be able to use your number in next 2 hours after registering to the new operator.

Well, we will have to wait to see how operators take this MNP as some of them may loose their current subscribers, and we know that none of them want so. Of course subscriber will have to face some issues as we can’t expect this kind of feature to go as smooth as it seems. Anyway, MNP is definitely a good option for subscribers i.e. us and it will get good response after the launch.
